apologetically, another schedule change

Dear group,

I find that because of my work schedule (I am the designated closer at work now), I need to cancel my commitment to weekend discussions, starting with Sunday, March 30th. If anyone in the group can provide space and leadership, by all means continue to meet.

For the weekday meetings, I am going to schedule one a week (scheduling two weeks in advance) to meet. I also am changing the format to include an hour of book discussion and an hour of current events talk about meaning to our lives. Next week, we will meet Thursday, March 27th at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm for A New Earth through Chapter 5. Thursday, April 3rd, we will discuss any ideas we have found in A New Earth.

Finally, I am going to post a weekly question here about current events and welcome each of your responses on this blog. This week's question has to do with the current controversy surrounding Barack Obama and Reverend Wright: Since this is Holy Week for Christians, the focus has been on Jesus's entrance into the Jerusalem and his confrontation with the domination political system of the Roman Empire. It strikes me that Reverend Wright's statements, although I in no way condone them, were denouncing the perceived empirialism in America. Should we be held accountable for our spiritual advisors' viewpoints or only for our own? I will post my comments this evening when I return from work.

Have a lovely weekend,
Donna

Hi, coexisters,

I am sorry I am late, but life happens.

This is correspondence I had with my younger sister that gives the basics of my thoughts:

This makes me feel good about my decision to pray for and actively campaign for Obama. As a professed follower of Christ and this being Holy Week for those of us that have chosen Jesus as our personal "savior," we need to stop and think about who in this latest political brouhaha is a "true" follower of Jesus. I would say Reverend Wright because he denounced the domination system as did Jesus.

Richardson Endorses Obama
By PATRICK HEALY
Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico, who sought to become president this year, plans to endorse Senator Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination on Friday.

. . .and her response:

Donna, thank you for your message. I've been besieged
this week by many Christian friends over the Pastor
Wright sound bites. I'm out of my element when
talking about Jesus. Your interesting and thoughtful
Christian perspective will be very helpful.

Also, the possibility of the REAL dream ticket is
still alive!

Love,
Jane

My main point is that if I profess to be a follower of Jesus and have chosen him as my spiritual guide, I must accept his first passion which was God's passion for justice for all creation (God's kingdom). I must constantly be aware of when nationalism is in the way of God's passion. It is God I worship and obey, no one else. To me, this is what Reverend Wright was promoting, although his approach was questionable.
